We should all keep this at hand.

I believe this two go together like peanut butter and jelly, especially for guys like me. Also, with much love to all my fellow artists.

If Batman says so, you better do it.

Hi there!

Tom Hardy as BANE, from The Dark Knight Rises.

This is just a tiny addition in a blog that without any doubt has fallen victim of my schedule, prior engagements and why not, like every son, has been displaced in favor of his younger sibling. I´m talking of course about the also excellent blog about comic book artists “Creando Comics…(Making comics: a journey through visual narrative)”, another project of mine that has been eating almost every single minute off I might have, so much so that whenever I have a small opening I take care of it instead of sitting down to draw.

That´s why I give you two small sketches I´ve been able to do in the last few days, sort of to fill in the gap I guess.

Something new is brewing in the kitchen, but it might take a while. Don´t forget to visit every now and then and maybe even give a heads up to a friend who enjoys comic books, you might even leave a comment in any of the many entries I have for you.

Cuídense, nos vemos en la vuelta.
Take care, I´ll see you ´round.

The Artist´s statement.

Are you a terrific writer working on the next Watchmen? Wanna know how to get an artist to draw it?

The answer is very simple: PAY HIM.

This is probably one of the only things I ever got out of Facebook.

The book about JIM LEE is ready.

Very well, the book on Jim Lee’s work is finished and one thing I neglected to mention earlier is that is all in English. Don’t ask me why, my head it’s just wired to think in English, so everything comes easier that way.

All corrections have been made, so keep this in mind, if you spot something wrong now, you can’t imagine how it looked before. Thing is; I always seem to miss some words while I’m writing them, and those mistakes or typos are corrected by whoever is making the work of a proof reader. In this case I didn’t have one, so I had to actually wait until I saw a printed copy to spot all the things that went awry. I also changed its name to Jim Lee: a sketchbook project for two reasons; a) because it really was just a project, and b) to make it sound less pretentious (some idiot tries to tell me that everything I do it´s incredibly pretentious, while all he does is sit down and scratch his sorry ass…dick).

There were a lot of images that needed to be replaced because the program doesn’t save the actual image on the project, so if you move either the working file or the image that link gets broken, which leaves you with a faulty image and when you print it, it looks like shit. This program (Quarkxpress) it’s pretty easy to use, but there is only so much you can do when all the reference you have next to you is the manual. Sometimes I had to make things time and time again to achieve what I was going for, try that for “trial & error”.

I have to say that coming up with a whole book it’s not an easy task, especially when you are doing it without previous knowledge, I couldn’t figure out how to number the pages for instance, or how to wrap text around some images, but hey, I did the best my limited knowledge allowed me to.

For the future book I’m working on I hope to count with the assistance of a proper designer, I have the whole look for it right in my head, but I don’t want to risk it. Hopefully I will be working with a publisher and the right people to do what I can’t do for myself. This next project has me really excited about it, work it’s already in progress and seems to be having a very positive response from those involved in it. This Jim Lee book was completed from conception to last edit in about two weeks, I’m certain that because we have a lot more time to work on it the next one will be simply awesome.

Now my dear friends, feel free to get this book from HERE, but remember: whatever you do with it it’s you own responsibility, it was never intended for sale, you can print it, you can share it, all I ask for is credit where credit is due and for you to keep me out of trouble.

Thanks to all for their kind words in Facebook and the support of anyone involved in one way or another. There are BIG THINGS in the works for 2012 (if the end of the world allows them to happen) so stay tuned. Like I always say…more to come.

P.S: there’s one thing that is missing, and that is a dedication, so here goes a palliative:

“I always pictured dedicating my first book to my kids and my beloved wife for all their love and support. Since I don’t have neither of them I plan to save that dedication for the future. Right now I feel that dedicating something like this to someone who doesn’t appreciate comics in the least will be a waste of space and time, so It won’t be dedicated to my mum either. But I will thank her for the mates she gave me while I was working… gracias vieja.”

Sobre la FIERRO.

Well, let´s get the obvious out of the way. This is about a comic I made for a contest and It didn´t win (or won, or whatever) So if you are Reading this whole post you are clearly out of your league (unless you speak spanish, that is).
I´m not gonna bother translating the text to english, you already know what you needed to know.

Now feel free to enjoy the pretty pictures. Here you have another testament of my eternal suckiness.

More stuff in English very soon.
C´mon guys, show me some love!

Cosas

I wish

I wish I had something to say
something worth hearing
I wish I had someone to tell it to
someone to take care of me

I wish I had a sketchbook
filled with silly drawings
that only make sense to me
I wish I had an artistic flair
(I´m afraid I don´t have one)

Sometimes I come across things like this
and I have no one to share it with
my loneliness has left me
and my emptyness doesn´t care

The world is filled with great things
I wish I could be one of them.

I came across this great illustrator called Paul Madonna who makes incredibly beautiful sketches and strips. I would love to be able to do something like this, to have a reason to do it.
For more on this great artist visit his site: http://www.paulmadonna.com/

even though no one cares--
--more to come.

Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea máxima culpa.

When I´m working on something I always try to stay on top of my own game. I assume a lot of responsabilities and I never hesítate when I need to point a finger at somebody because they are not doing their job.
This might be a virtue to some and a serious flaw to others. Choose your side, I really don´t care.

Still, in the past, whenever “HOW TO SURVIVE WORKING IN RETAIL” has been forced to suffer some kind of delay it has been always because either Ronnie (writer/creator) and/or myself (artista/editor/co-creator) have been too busy living our life outside of comics.

You know, the one that pays the bills.

Throw into that concoction some work, family, personal tragedies, a relentless weather and what not and you´ll end up with a modest comic book (that turns out to be pretty ambitious BTW!) coming out without a regular Schedule and whenever its authors can pull an issue out of their collective ass.

This is the case for HTSWR #7. It´s been a while since #6 came out, and it seems that its going to take a bit longer before it can see daylight.
But I just want to make sure y´all know, this it´s all because of me. This time around it´s nobody´s fault but mine.

Trying to avoid coming up with silly excuses I just want to paint you a picture of what my life has become.

I´m working two jobs, one of them six days a week from midnight till 8 a.m. The other one just before going to the first one on the weekends. I´m also studying to become an English teacher and between clases and the mid term exams I´m really swimming in shit.

I´m also developing a project for a new graphic novel along a very talented writer from Uruguay that is pending approval. I commited myself in a long term Project for an icomic and I keep doing work for my good friends at Hadron Colliderscope whenever I have the chance.

I also happen to be in the middle of an unforgiving Winter in a house with no central heat. For you to have a beeter idea, when I sit at the drawing table ready to draw, the paper it´s so cold that it freezes my hands.
Now don´t get me wrong. I don´t want anyone to feel sorry for me (I take care of that just fine), I just want people to understand the reasons behind this issue´s lateness.

The book is completely drawn. All the pages are done in pencil and I started with the inking. I do what I can whenever I have the time. That´s the truth, plain and simple.
In the mean time 3 GUYS MAKING COMICS it´s growing up big time, too much for such a small company in fact. The book is getting terrific reviews and praise from pros and readers alike. They see the same potential in it that we saw back in the table of a dinner almost two years ago when all the planning started.

We are working on the digital versión of the book for ipad and android. We are remodeling the website to be completely new and we are also working in an upcoming Graphic Novel collecting all the issues of the series so far. Conventions are coming and going and we try to be present in as many as we can.

We do appreciate your support and pratronage, especially me. I´ve been told time and time again how much you folks like and enjoy the art. Thanks very much for that, really, I mean it. That means the world to me.

Besides, hey, DC and MARVEL are getting late with almost all their books, right?
Look at THE DARK NIGHT, AVENGERS: THE CHILDRENS CRUSADE, BATMAN Inc. BATMAN AND ROBIN, DEADPOOL MAX, BATWOMAN and maybe a few more that I can´t remember right now. They are the BIG ones and can´t keep a Schedule. How can we?
LOL, anyway. I hope to have shed some light in this matter. Not that it is a big problema in the world right now, it´s just that is a big thing for us, because this book is our Little baby. And its all a labor of love.

Our love for comics.

More to come.

Se movió la EXPO.

Saludos terrestres!

Therapy revelations.

In 2010 I started the long and way overdue process of therapy (how very modern of me!) and through this I have come a few discoveries in my life.
This is a section with some of the revelations I’ve made with the help of my psychologist. Some are funny and some are a little more tragic. In any case, they are another unrequested window to my head. Let the healing begin. Enjoy.
The funny thing it's I don't know whether nobody's watching or noboby cares.Take your pick.

#5: The rise of the sadist.

#6: Meet a new friend of mine.

Lourdes.

Thanks so much for befriending me.
Let the good times roll.
More to come.

DISCLAIMER.

As we start a new year I found myself in a very awkward position. Shortly after a year of filling the web with my art and my thoughts, my comments and my critiques I’m sure to say that not much has been achieved.

I originally started this as a way of showing my work to possible editors and people responsible for committing your work to the printed page. Regarding that; it has failed.
Also, because it started as an outlet back when I was living in the states it meant that it was to be written in English (because of my target for readership). As I moved I was shifting towards Spanish, because now most of the people who happen to read this don’t understand a word in English.

I made a promise to translate as much as I could to keep both sides happy. To my surprise it seems like neither of them are actually interested in what I might have to say nor show.
It looks to me that it has become a masturbatory exercise for my devastated ego.

Well then, if that is the case I will let everybody know in this simple way that from now on I won’t care about people anymore. That means that I will post things as they come to my head, at my very whim I will populate this with things in Spanish as well as in English. If you don’t understand you are welcome to use the google translator or whatever way you find useful to do it.

I still hope to find someone that believes in me enough as to offer me a book deal or some real work. The thing is this: I want to get published, NOT self-published. Simple.

I know it might not be the wisest thing to do to make such statements here, but it is what it is. And while the pages are pilling up, so are the frustrations. Sorry to put it this way.

Now, some things I already have translated will be re-posted, but things like the pages I made for the blog’s 1st birthday won’t. From now on things will come as I see fit. If you really don’t like the way things are you are welcome to leave your comment about it and maybe I can start to do something about it. As long as the people stay in silence things won’t change.

Sorry again for any inconvenience it might cause you.
I hope you will stick around though.

Sincerely.

Frustrated cartoonist.

The truth about my Birthday.

This year I didn't have a happy Birthday. Much like last year's, but for very different reasons.

Last year's was because I was all alone and felt abandoned in a foreign country. This year I am no longer alone, I'm surrounded by friends and family. But to my own surprise I found myself not allowing me to be happy. I decided that there was no reason whatsoever to celebrate because around this same time last year I materialized the biggest mistake of my life...

...I bought the ticket back to my home.

My shrink says that I'm constantly doing the impossible to keep myself from being happy. She's right, I know that, and things like this are the reason behind my self-punishment.

Maybe next year I will be a little bit more tolerant with myself and allow me to be happy.

At least for a little while, one day of the year.
But I wouldn't hold my breath.
